Performing Arts

Term 1 is a busy time in the Performing Arts. Here's a recap of the many musical and performative moments this term:

Community Assembly Performances ๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽถ

Congratulations to all the musicians who performed at the Community Assemblies at the start of term! Congrats and thanks to Rishi A, Isla T, Audrey T, Evie P, Emily D, Jahla G, Flynn A, and Urijah D! Your tunes set the scene for the assemblies and got the year off to a musical start!

Stage Dives - Every Monday Lunch ๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽค

Our weekly Stage Dive sessions have been well attended by performers and music-lovers alike with regular performances from bands, solos, duos, and open-mic jammers. Everyone is welcome to attend and/or perform. Send an expression of interest to our Music Leaders Audrey Trubiano, Isla Treweek, and Alexei Schumacher to lock in your spot on the set list!  ๐ŸŽง

Musical Rehearsals Have Begun๐ŸŽญโ„๏ธ

The Frozen cast has been chosen, the songs are being learned, and the sound of dancers on the boards moving to the songs of this timeless musical are already echoing around the PAC on a Friday afternoon when weekly rehearsals bring together this 80+ strong cast. Be sure to watch the Next Week @ TC emails to lock in your tickets when they are released! ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ

Pool Party Rocks Again! ๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽ‰

Once again the TC Musos rocked the stage at our annual Pool Party ๐Ÿ–๏ธwith over 15 bands performing on the day. Each band performed songs that they had been working on throughout the term. The results of their practice and dedicated rehearsals were evident with confident and enthusiastic performances from beginners and experienced musos alike. Thank you to all performers, stage managers, music staff, and everyone who helped to carry a case or mic stand on the day! A big thank you also to everyone who cheered their mates on as they performed! ๐Ÿ™Œ ๐ŸŽค

Elite Dance ๐Ÿ’ƒโœจ

It is a bright and early start every Thursday morning for our Elite Dance troupe who meet before school to work with Amber and Brooke, our Dance pros, to unleash their creativity through movement and physical expression. Be sure to check out their Term 2 showcase on June 19. For any questions about Elite Dance, please contact Kat Katz or Ryan Griffith.

Top CLASS Drama Excursion๐ŸŽญ

On Tuesday 24 March, TC students attended Top Class Drama at the Melbourne Recital Centre, a showcase of creativity and artistry from 2025โ€™s VCE Drama students.

This inspiring series highlights the talents of young performers from across Victoria. Top Class Drama 2026 featured a range of original monologues from the 2025 prescribed structures, leaving our students motivated and inspired by the incredible work of their peers. โœจ

Lunchtime Ensembles ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Song Club welcomes players and singers of all instruments to the music room every Tuesday lunch to learn, compose, and share fun songs in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere. ๐ŸŽตThe musos are beginning to write their original tune for our May Concerts!

๐ŸŽปString Ensemble is also on a Tuesday lunchtime so the PAC is awash with amazing sounds! This group brings together our violin, viola, and cello students to choose and rehearse songs inspired by movies, games, and the incredible cannon on classical music.

Percussion ensemble happens on a Thursday lunch and brings together drummers and percussionists to learn rhythms and beats from around the world. ๐ŸฅFrom djembes to cabasas, claves to congas, there is always something to hit and shake!

If you are interested in checking out these ensembles or joining, please contact Ryan Griffith or Kyle Claringbold.

May Music Concert - 'One River, Many Streams' ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŽถ

The TC Musos are already writing and rehearsing their songs for the upcoming May concert on May 12 and 13. This two-night concert series presents all the TC bands, ensembles, and select soloists and duos. This year we are exploring the powerful symbolism of rivers and water with the theme "One River, Many Streams".

It has been wonderful to hear students' ideas about what the theme means to them, as well as learn about the importance of rivers to communities and Indigenous groups around Australia, in particular the importance of Birrarung to the local Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people.

Tickets to these concerts are available now via Trybooking so get them before they wash downstream! ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ

Student part of La Mama Drama program

Hey TC, I'm Marlo, I've joined ten other kids around Melbourne in the La Mama program where we got to speak to theatre professionals. They took us around the theatre and showed us all the behind the scenes, spoke about the directors, designers and actors who started with La Mama, like Cate Blanchett and more! They taught us so much and will continue to over the year, with online and in person classes at La Mama. We will also get to watch shows over the year and get to speak to the performers and directors as well. They were such kind and lovely people, who made us feel very comfortable and welcome. If you ever get the opportunity I would recommend getting involved in a program like this.

Visual Arts

Photography in the CBD

On March 30 ๐Ÿ“ธ, Templestowe's two Photography classes recently headed into the city ๐Ÿ™๏ธ for an exciting street photography excursion. Throughout the day, students explored urban spaces with their cameras, capturing a wide range of subjects while focusing on the 10 key composition techniques studied in class ๐ŸŽจ. This gave students the opportunity to apply their learning in a real-world setting and strengthen their ability to frame engaging and creative photographs.

The excursion encouraged students to look more carefully at the world around them ๐ŸŒ†, noticing patterns, leading lines, symmetry, framing, contrast, and other important compositional elements in everyday city life. The photographs below showcase the studentsโ€™ work and highlight both their growing technical skills and their creative eye ๐Ÿ‘€. It was a valuable experience that allowed students to build confidence behind the camera while producing a collection of striking and thoughtful images โœจ.

New subject โ€“ Fashion & Textiles

Fashion and textiles is one of our new subjects at TC for 2026! One of our first ice breakers and class challengers was a newspaper dress competition. Students were put into groups and collaboratively designed and produced a newspaper outfit in one lesson. The art teachers then voted on the best outcome. This was the perfect task to lead into our upcycling unit where students have been learning various fabric manipulation techniques!

Top Screens Media Experience

๐ŸŽฌMedia students got to experience horror, comedy, drama and a good mix of engaging animation in their visit to Top Screens this year.  Top Screens at ACMI showcases the best films of Media students from the previous year.

On March 19 all VCE Media students went to Fed Square and after a photographic scavenger hunt ๐Ÿ“ธand a visit to The Moving Image exhibition, settled into their seats to see the best student films from 2025.

Highlights for the students were quirky animation ๐ŸŽจ, unsettling horror ๐ŸŽƒ films, some excellent acting from a TC student in a live action exploration of childhood, an homage to Hollywood action scenes based around the last cookie in the jar ๐Ÿช, and a luckless boy trying to get to his date โค๏ธ.
