Principal’s Message

I believe that Term 2 is often the busiest term in schools. It includes many events and concludes Semester 1 with its associated reporting deadlines. In amongst all this, the TC community still finds time and energy to be involved in all the extra-curricular activities outlined in this newsletter. Reflecting on all of this we can go into the holidays knowing that the students and staff have earned the break over the next two weeks.

I am constantly delighted by what we see at TC both in and out of the classroom. Students move through their days engaging in their learning, social interactions, and extracurricular activities in a calm, orderly, and positive manner. When taking tours for prospective parents and students, it is sometimes hard to prove that there are more than 1200 students at the school because it is so calm and peaceful. This is such an importance piece in making TC a safe and inclusive school. I thank the students as it is their actions that create and maintain this environment.

As I celebrate my first year at TC I am excited more than ever by the opportunities this school provides for its students. I am excited by the way students exercise their voice in their learning through the FLE, the work in the Animals and Permaculture spaces, and the engagement in the ESDP. On top of these, I am excited by the innovative and interesting ways our staff deliver the curriculum to our students. I am lucky to be supported by such an engaged and energetic workforce who come with the best interests of the students at the centre of their thinking and teaching. My sincere thanks to all the staff at the school for their continued efforts at TC.

I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter as much as I have, celebrating the fact that every report is an indication that many have been involved in learning.

I wish all the community a safe and restful break.

Student achievements

Congratulations to Yui Sawada, who was awarded a commendation award for student leadership, a truly impressive achievement. This is in a field of all Year 11 International students across the state. Yui was also one of only two students asked to perform a musical piece at the event. Her piece on the clarinet was superb. We left feeling immensely proud of her achievements and the manner in which she represented the school and herself.

Well done Yui, and all who have supported her, especially Belle and the International Student Program team, and the music team.

Manningham Council Youth Summit

A couple weeks ago I and a handful of TC students attended the Manningham Youth Summit. Upon arrival we were seated into our preferred groups which included climate change, equality, mental health and political participation.

In our groups we first discussed issues in our community related to our topic and then we began to create a proposal to present to council members and Councillor Jim Grivas who is the Mayor of the Ruffy Ward.

It was a fantastic opportunity for young people to advocate for the change they wanted to see in the community as well as meeting likeminded peers. We also got to hear from two amazing keynote speakers who shared their experiences as young people taking part in leadership and making a change in the areas they were passionate about.

Overall, the day was highly educative and enjoyable, if this opportunity returns next year, I encourage all students to take part.

2027 VCE VM and VET applications are now open

VCE VM Applications

Applications for VCE VM 2027 are now open. Please see more information on the VM page of this newsletter.

VET Applications

(For FLE2, FLE3 and FLE4 students only)

Applications are now open for students wishing to undertake a VETDSS (Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students) course in 2027 as part of their secondary education program.

VET courses provide students with the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on skills, explore career pathways and work towards nationally recognised qualifications while completing their schooling.

To learn more about the VETDSS program and the courses available, please follow this VETDSS 2027 link. Here you will find:

  • A VET information presentation video

  • The 2027 VET application form

  • VET course guides and information about each program

Applications close on Friday 7 August (the end of Week 4, Term 3). Applications received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

As places in VETDSS courses are limited, students are encouraged to apply as early as possible to maximise their chances of securing a place in their preferred course. If you are considering undertaking a VET course, we recommend submitting an application, even if you are still deciding. Applications can be withdrawn at a later date if circumstances change.

Important: Current first-year VET students who wish to continue into the second year of their program in 2027 must submit a new application. Enrolments do not automatically roll over from one year to the next.

If you have any questions about VETDSS courses or the application process, please contact the school's VET Coordinator.
