Robotics

Our senior robotics students recently attended an exciting excursion to Camberwell Grammar, where they competed against other talented teams in a high-energy robotics event. ⚙️ The day was a fantastic opportunity for students to put their design, engineering and problem-solving skills into action while representing the school with pride. Throughout the competition, all students demonstrated teamwork, resilience and professionalism as they worked through challenges and refined their strategies in a competitive environment. 💡

A highlight of the day was the outstanding performance of Team 1002V, with Alasdair C and Oscar V taking out first place 🥇 through hard work, smart decision-making and a fantastic mechanical robot build. Team 1002S, made up of Ethan W, Charlie G, Alex K, Oliver E and Dex H, also achieved an excellent result, finishing in third place 🥉 after a strong and determined performance. We are incredibly proud of both teams for their success and for the way they represented our school at Camberwell Grammar. 🎉

Food Technology – Term 1 Update

This semester in Food Technology students have been exploring sustainability and how it connects to the food we grow, prepare, and eat. 🌍 As part of this, students have been working in the school kitchen garden, planting a variety of herbs and vegetables from seed that will later be used in their recipes. 🌿

Students have also investigated rice as a global staple food, learning about its environmental impacts, nutritional value, and role in different cultures. 🍚 They have explored a range of rice types from around the world and practised different cooking methods, analysing how flavour, texture, appearance, and aroma can vary. 👩‍🍳

Using this knowledge, students have begun designing their own dish for a hypothetical food truck. 🚚 Their challenge is to combine rice with fresh ingredients from the school kitchen garden to create a meal that is practical, sustainable, and full of flavour. We look forward to seeing their ideas come to life next term! ✨

Mechanical Engineering

This term students have begun participating in a new technologies subject called Mechanical Engineering. ⚙️

In this subject students have been learning about the inner workings of engines and other everyday mechanical appliances, as well as the applications and purposes of common workshop tools. 🛠️

The first project was the disassembling and sectioning of lawnmower engines to turn them into display/teaching items. Students have now begun working on their own projects in small groups, including rebuilding a go-kart, fixing a dirt bike with a seized engine 🏍️, and the restoration of an old ride-on mower that was found on hard rubbish! 🔩♻️
