Queer in Nature Day: A Celebration of Connection, Creativity, and Mindfulness
This year’s Queer in Nature Day was a beautiful celebration of identity, connection, and the natural world around us. Together, we gathered to honour the vibrant spectrum of queerness, not just within ourselves but also in the environments we inhabit.
The day was filled with fun, grounding activities designed to nurture both body and soul. We kicked things off with a series of grounding exercises—deep breaths, mindful movements, and moments of stillness in the great outdoors. These practices helped us reconnect with ourselves and the earth beneath our feet, setting a peaceful tone for the afternoon ahead.
Next, we delved into the creative expression of making friendship bracelets. It was a fun and colourful way to weave together threads of connection with one another, crafting tokens that symbolise solidarity, love, and the bonds we share as a community. It was amazing to see everyone’s unique designs, each bracelet a little piece of self-expression and a reminder of the power of unity.
We also took time for mindfulness and meditation, finding moments of quiet reflection as we sat beneath the trees . The gentle whispers of nature provided the perfect backdrop for inner calm, allowing us to ground ourselves and release any tension we were carrying.
Throughout the day, we shared stories, laughs, and affirmations, celebrating the richness of our identities and the beauty of living authentically. Whether we were making art, practicing self-care, or simply being in nature together, it was a day filled with love, joy, and deep connection.
Queer in Nature Day was more than just an event—it was a reminder that, just like the natural world, we too are diverse, resilient, and ever-evolving. It was a day to honour who we are, celebrate how far we’ve come, and look forward to the journeys ahead. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this day so special!
Headspace Day
TC had the opportunity to take our Year 9 students to Headspace Box Hill to celebrate Headspace Day. Headspace Day is a national event dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of young Australians. This year's theme was Pause, Reflect, Reconnect, encouraging young people to take a moment to pause, reflect on their experiences, and reconnect with what truly matters to them.
During the day, our students had a fantastic time connecting with our local Headspace team and engaging in a variety of group activities. These activities not only helped them reflect on their own well-being but also fostered a sense of community and support. It was a fun and meaningful day that reinforced the importance of mental health while giving our students the tools to reconnect with themselves and others.
