Fareshare Community Excursions

We love working with @fareshare_australia to give back to less fortunate people in our community. Over two excursions TC staff and students helped assembly 1569 beef and rice meals πŸ›, trayed up 396 chickens to roast πŸ—, prepared 200kg zucchini for slicing, topped and tailed and cut in half 45kg beansπŸ«›, decanted and trayed rice for 1800 meals 🍚, trayed up 280kg chicken wings πŸ—, opened and trayed up 60kg chicken, affixed 100’s of labels, folded tea towels and aprons 🍽️ and cleaned & reset the kitchen.

WOW! Keep up the great work FareShare!

Blue Community

To all of Blue Community,

We began 2024 with the challenge for all students to go beyond. This challenge came with the push for every member of the Community to challenge themselves personally and educationally. It has been pleasing to see the Community take up this challenge, with students taking up new initiatives and ideas both within and outside the school. From our current Graduates to our 2025 Entries (who just finished a successful orientation day), every member has been able to grow and succeed.

Our student leaders have also continued to impress throughout the year. Parker, Millyca, and Kate have successfully led our community involvement in the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, created a blue chant, and continued to be positive role models. Whilst we may not have won the Community Cup, Blue certainly had a strong second-half performance! For 2025, we welcome Meg, Samyar, and Gabby into the student leader role to continue supporting staff and students in Community events and activities.

I would also like to acknowledge the work of Jordan Michaelis in the Community Leader role and the support he has provided as we have progressed through the year. For 2025, the Community will have a new direction under the leadership of Ben Kilby (new to TC), supported by Jordan and Helen Lester in the Community Role.

After 10 years at TC, it is time for me to β€˜go beyond’, taking on a new role in the Northern Territory. It has been a privilege and pleasure to work with all of you across many different settings throughout the years. TC is a fantastic workplace, and this is due to the community of students, families, and staff working together to provide opportunities and experiences that take education to the next level.

I wish all of you a successful break and a safe time away from school. Keep on being the best Community in the College (okay, I’m a little biased!).

Regards,
Anthony Owen

RAISE Youth Leadership Summit

On Thursday the 17th, the Youth Leadership Summit excursion brought an exciting day in the city. Students and Teachers boarded the bus, eager to reach the fancy stylish boardroom where the summit was held. Students from other schools like Koonung College and Boorka College were attending too. Icebreaker activities helped everyone break the ice and make new connections.

One of the highlights was meeting the CEO. He shared insights about how his company operates and took us on a tour of their office on the 42nd floor!

A standout activity was the jelly bean exercise, where we used jelly beans as currency. Students navigated saving and spending on essentials like insurance, housing, and food, all while facing unexpected curve balls like  COVID-19 or crashing a car. Those with insurance fared better, demonstrating real-life financial challenges.

After all that, we enjoyed a fantastic afternoon tea featuring sushi, pizza, pies, sausage rolls, and colourful fruit platters. We then dove into some engaging design problem-solving activities that sparked creativity and teamwork.

The day wrapped up with an inspiring speech from a man who, after overcoming serious injuries from a car accident, went on to run a marathon. He shared his mantra, β€œMindset over matter,” and shared four important principles to have to achieve success: setting achievable goals, maintaining a positive mindset, building a supportive network, and believing in yourself.

As the day came to an end, students and teachers boarded the bus home, feeling inspired and ready to tackle whatever challenges life may bring.

The day ended on an inspiring note, and students and teachers boarded the bus home feeling motivated and ready to conquer whatever is thrown their way in this crazy thing we call life.

Gold Community

Gold Community enjoyed many wonderful activities this year. A very special thank you to our Gold Community Student Leaders in 2024, Abby Dearman and Jessica Ryles and a warm welcome to Mietta Palmer, who will join Jess as leader in 2025 whilst Abby moves into the position of School Leader. Also heartfelt thanks to Duncan Sadler for organising the many community activities this year. Gold participation was generally excellent, with the highlights being our win in the Cross Country due to the high number of Gold students who participated. Also, winning the swimming carnival, which is one of the two biggest events of the year, was really satisfying; again due to a high participation level. It was also one of the most enjoyable days of the year on a beautiful, sunny day. I know that all who did take part in activities enjoyed themselves and this is what helps make school years satisfying and memorable. So next year, get amongst it! I hope that our student leaders will be able to help make school a fun and satisfying experience for you all. I know this is their passionate desire, so help them out whenever you can and of course, participate in as many events as possible. Are you seeing a theme here yet? I know that your enjoyment of school is directly correlated with the effort you make to join in and be part of the many opportunities you have here. TC is an amazing place with so many fun and satisfying things to do so next year, make a promise to yourself to get as much out of these opportunities as you can.

Self Defence and Ninja Warrior Activities

Well done to all students who participated in Proactivity’s Self Defence and/or Ninja Warrior course. The students brought energy, enthusiasm and engaged in a range of activities. Lots of laughs and competitive spirits were on show!

These events promoting  β€œPositive physicality @TC” were partially funded by Manningham Council to recognise 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence.

Tis the season of giving back!

Asylum Seeker Resource Centre

A group of students from the Ration Challenge and TC Helping Hearts group visited the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre to deliver the donations we collected during Refugee Week. While there the food coordinator Vincent gave us a tour of the facility which includes a lounge, consulting rooms, β€˜supermarket’, restaurant, heartthrob centre and legal centre. We learnt about the hardships asylum seekers face with no monetary aid from the government and the important role of volunteers.

We then had a very serious 2025 strategy meeting at nearby Ethiopian restaurant, Jambo. This was a first time eating this style of food for all of the students and they are all keen to have it again! Yum!

Green Community

Dear Green Community Students and Families,

YAY! We’ve made it! What a fabulous year 2024 has been for Green Community!

I would firstly like to take the opportunity to thank and congratulate everyone on what has been a wonderful year for all. You have all worked so hard this year and should be immensely proud of yourselves.

We have seen many great things over the course of the year including; the amazing school production β€˜Matilda’, all the community events being driven by our student leaders, all the camps, sports teams absolutely smashing it throughout the year, increased participation in the Athletics and Swimming carnivals, the marvellous Art Show – The list goes on!

It was so wonderful seeing so many of you participate and come along to support one another. Let’s keep this up in 2025 and keep the momentum going!

Thank you to the Green student community leaders, for being such positive role models and advocates for the Green Community!

I would also like to thank Green Community Leader – Vicky Eborall, for all the support and work she have done this year.

Looking ahead to 2025, I will be moving on from TC and Green Community will be led by Vicky Eborall with Nicole Carbone and Sasha Kumar as Community Leaders.

I wish everyone a safe and happy break over the holiday period. Be sure to take the time to do things that bring you joy and be kind to one another.

I wish you all the best for next year and keep being the best version of yourself.

Halloween

An annual tradition at TC, we love a good dress up and Halloween is one of the biggest on the calendar, staff and students dress up in spooky costumes, or niche meme references, really anything goes! And thats what makes it so fun!

Junior Social

The junior social was the last evening event of the year, where FLE 1&2 students enjoyed the vogue ballroom, dancing the night away. There was a two-course dinner and the DJ took ALL song requests, making for a big night on the dance floor and lots of excited screaming!

2025 Entry Orientation Day

Our 2025 Entry students descended upon TC on Tuesday 10th Dec for a day full of nerves and excitement! They were able to connect with each other and TC staff through a range of activities and games across the school, including drumming circles, PE games, interactive animals tours and fun with dry ice. Students were tasked with the challenge of being open-minded, going outside of their comfort zone and interacting with at least a few new peers - a challenge they took on with great courage.  We were so impressed with the enthusiasm and resilience that our newest community members approached the day with and we can't wait to see them all again for their first day in 2025!

Community Events

This term was jam packed with community events with five taking place. There was down ball, Mario kart, Smash Bros, Robic Cube and Dodgeball showing that the community cup really has something for everyone!

The big announcement that everyone was waiting for however, was in the final assembly to see who would be champions of the community cup, which community had participated the most, had the best outcomes in all the events throughout the year to come out on top?!

Congratulations to Red Community

A Year of Reflection and Achievement: Looking Back at 2024

The year 2024 has truly been remarkable. While it is difficult to encapsulate all the successes and milestones in a brief article, I encourage you to read through the rest of the newsletter to gain a fuller picture of the achievements we have celebrated together as a community. One thing remains certain: TC continues to be a place where everyone finds a sense of belonging. It is not difficult to find like minded people here at TC if you truly look.

To our Entry and FLE students, as you transition to the next stage of your academic journey, I urge you to take a moment to reflect on the year. Consider both your achievements and challenges and recognize the growth you have experienced. What strategies have proven effective, and where might adjustments be made to further your success? Set meaningful goals for yourself and continue to strive towards becoming the best version of who you can be. Goal setting and reflection will be playing a significant role in 2025, so prepare yourself by starting that reflection process now.

A special acknowledgment is due to our graduating students. Regardless of the paths you have chosen, the potential for future success remains boundless. We extend our best wishes for your continued growth and fulfillment as you embark on the next chapter of your life and education.

We also extend our congratulations to our student community leaders (Scarlett Evans, Delanah Schelbach and Jack Wheeler) for their exceptional contributions this year. Your leadership in promoting student participation, organizing assemblies, and facilitating a variety of lunchtime events has played a vital role in strengthening our whole school community.

To the connect staff within the Red Community, I extend my deepest gratitude for your continued dedication and support. The energy and connections I witness in our shared spaces reflect your genuine care for our students and your unwavering commitment to their well-being.

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to Kellie Spiden and Jacinta Taing for their invaluable assistance as administrative support to the Community Executive Team. Your tireless efforts have ensured the smooth functioning of our operations. Additionally, I extend my thanks to Jessie Ravenscroft for her exceptional leadership as community leader this year. Your support and dedication have played a key role in shaping the culture of our community.

Looking ahead to 2025, we are pleased to welcome Rachael Apps to the team, as she will work along side Jessie and myself as the Red Community Executive Team. We look forward to the many contributions and successes you will bring to our community.

As the year draws to a close, it is time to rest and recharge in preparation for what promises to be another fulfilling year. I hope you all enjoy a well-earned holiday break.

Wishing everyone a joyful and restful holiday season.
