Humanities
History Month
TC celebrated History Month in October this year with activities enjoyed by the whole school community. Each week we competed in History themed quizzes as individuals or Connect groups. The quizzes were hotly contested, particularly among the staff! Entry and FLE Humanities classes took part in an incursion where they learnt how to be Gladiators. Students fought in a variety of styles and costumes, with their fate decided by the Emperor and the crowd.
In the final week the Entry Connect classes competed against each other in a box castle building competition. Students were given cardboard boxes and some tape to build a castle, which was then pelted with balls by some staff until it fell over.
Humanities Melbourne Museum Excursion
Students studying humanities visited the Melbourne Museum to enhance their understanding of history and geography through hands-on learning. By exploring museum galleries, students engaged with exhibits on significant historical events and geographical phenomena, linking classroom content to real-world examples. This immersive experience deepened their comprehension of topics such as cultural evolution, human-environment interaction, and natural processes. The excursion concluded with a volcano documentary which added a dynamic visual element, reinforcing learning about geological activity and its impact on the planet.
Pentridge Philosophy and Sociology Excursion
To begin Term 4, Unit 1+2 Philosophy and Sociology classes journeyed to Pentridge to critically consider Victorian responses to crime and punishment. We began the day viewing a film about the complexities of prosecuting certain offences and the jarring experience of working within the justice system and then finding yourself having to rely on that system to achieve justice. We then toured of the historic prison site and explored H division, hearing about it's brutal past. This provided exposure to many perspectives and critical questions that were then explored within the classroom upon our return.
