The Ember Dining excursion

Students from Café Bake and food classes had the wonderful opportunity to go on a fine-dining excursion to the beautiful Ember restaurant in leafy Warrandyte.

Ember Dining is located in the heart of Warrandyte and serves a modern Australian menu with a fiery twist.

Students were treated to a selection of the "Feed Me menu," which consisted of Homemade flatbread with whipped Ricotta, slow-cooked Lamb shoulder, and Lemon Tiramisu. Chef-owner Tom also popped out from the kitchen and gave a talk on a day in a chef's life.

Yarra Valley Chocolaterie

On Wednesday 16th December students from the Food Technology and Café Culture classes ventured off for an adventure to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie We were greeted by the friendly faces of some of the workers and chocolate makers. We split into 2 groups. One group had some delicious taste testings from a variety of chocolates. They also learnt about how chocolate is made. The second group dived into a hands-on class where they made a giant chocolate lollipop. They had approximately 20 different ingredients which they could select to add. The groups then swapped. We were all taken on a walk off the lovely gardens where we learnt about the local produce and how it is used in the chocolate creations. Students were then treated to an ice-cream and had an opportunity to purchase many of the amazing and delicious treats on offer. At the end of we jumped onto the bus ready for a nap after a fun and exciting day full of plenty of sugar.

Robotics

Nationals in Sydney

The Nationals in syndey were such an awesome experience. The veteran Senior V5 robotics team hit the group running with enthusiasm. One of the 3 V5 teams had even done a total robot rebuild the night before, having looked at all the other robots the day before during check in.

This is the Junior IQ robotic team’s first time at Nationals, they were quick studies on how the competition ran and even made a few attempts at Robot Skills.

The veteran V5 teams did really well in the competition, even making it to finals. Though in finals they were eliminated in the ‘instant death’ rounds.  They were still really positive and socialized with the other school teams and watched the last round of finals.

Well done to:

  • Team 1002X: Alex Sleeman, Danu Kusuma & Abbas Khan.

  • Team 1002T Jack Greatorex, Liam Devereux & Thomas Radford.

  • Team 1002B Jamie Valmorbida, George Haviaridis, Zacky Phillips & Fin Kent!

The new IQ team did not make it to finals but had such a great experience the team bought matching t-shirts and matching sweaters, proudly displaying that they had succeeded in Qualifying for the robotics Nationals and had competed there.

Well done Team 3107T: Tom Haviaridis, Alex Kent & Dex Huynh!
