Landcare Camps

MAP students participated in one of our many landcare camps where the focus is on giving back to community and everyone being able to contribute in a meaningful way. After setting up camp in beautiful Waratah Bay, students spent the week engaging in activities such as;

  • Beach walks and exploration of rock pools

  • Working with the ‘Friends of the Lyre Bird Forest Walk’ to clear tracks of debris, weed and prune forest areas and assist in maintenance of the environment.

  • Exploring the local shopping precinct in Inverloch

  • Assisting at Fish Creek Primary School with some general school ground maintenance, improving the chicken coop, and identifying illness and providing appropriate advice and treatment. MAP students were also welcomed into classrooms to read to and interact with the primary students

  • Meaningfully exploring the Lyrebird Forest Walk

  • Volunteering in the Meeniyan Community Garden with weeding, clearing garden beds, composting, rebuilding scarecrow creatures, removing snails from the garden beds, and restoring bird baths

  • Picnics in the parks

  • Exploring the Inverloch Bunurong Environment Centre and Shell Museum

Throughout the camp, students were responsible for preparing community meals, ensuring a tidy campsite, getting to know one another, and honing their deception skills while playing Blood on the Clocktower! Some highlights included exploring the beach, Halloween Dress-ups, preparing the primary school for literature festival, interacting with the local wildlife, and beautiful community reflections at the end of both camps.
