ESDP

The highlight of term 3 for the Basketball Program is always the Champions Cup tournament. This tournament is the priority for schools that have an emphasis on basketball and is the most highly rated event on the Basketball Victoria calendar.

TC entered teams in each division of the tournament with both our Junior girls and Intermediate boys advancing to the Elite 8 of the event. The Elite 8 is another one day tournament for the top 8 teams of the competition. The girls competed well, however, they failed to make the semifinals of the event. The boys, who knocked out Rowville Secondary College in the preliminary rounds, lost to the eventual Champions Cup winners, Berwick Secondary College, in the semi-final.

All our teams have shown tremendous improvement over the year and for the students who began the program at the Entry year their improvement is noticeable against teams who we struggled against in those early years. Well done to all our students who competed.

Several phases of the School Sport Victoria Basketball tournaments are also held during Term3. The Senior boys and both the Intermediate boys and girl’s teams have advanced to the next stage of the State event with the Year 8 age equivalent girls also advancing to the regional playoffs to be held next term.

Our year 7 equivalent students SSV tournament in the last week of school saw both boys & girls TC teams victorious and through to finals.

Try outs for the 2025 entry classes were held during this term. We will have a near 30 new students entering the program next year, our biggest ever intake of students which will raise the number of the students in the Basketball Program to over 100 for the first time ever. An exciting 2025 ahead.

We also had a visiting American college coach visit to check out some of our female students, Jess Keller for the University of Nebraska, attended a game day session and gave some excellent feedback on the number of prospects we had who would be suitable of college basketball in the USA.

Term 4 will feature the finals of the School Sport Victoria tournaments and also our Senior boys and Intermediate girls teams will head to the Gold Coast to compete in the National Schools Championships.

2023 Graduates Amos Harvey (St Could University) and Lily Carmody (Butler University) departed Australia to begin their US College experience early in the term, we look forward to following their progess.
