Newsletter, Term 3, 2024

As our newsletter has grown in size the website pages have struggled to keep up with the great content shown! This term we are trying a new system to guide users through a series of pages hopefully capturing the essence of the newsletter, showing our community the excellent happenings around TC.

We would love to receive any feedback you have to connect@tc.vic.edu.au

You can click on an area of interest or scroll through each section using the buttons at the end of each page.

Principal Message

Congratulations everyone on an excellent term 3! The newsletter once again showcases the wide range of activities taking place here @ TC, with something for everyone and engagement and participation across such a wide range of events continually increasing.

The term does seem to race by, and the newsletter is an excellent opportunity to be able to remember the many great things that happen.  There are many highlights that can be seen across all areas of the school.

Some highlights for this term include:

  • Our production of Matilda was phenomenal!

  • The Animals Trivia Night

  • A successful subject selection process (so far!)

  • The launch of our whole school program of “The Team We Need”

  • Snow, Art Immersion and MAP Grad Camp

  • The number of students taking part in the Maths Competitions

  • The Debutant Ball

Plus many more things!

Looking ahead to term 4 we are carrying out a lot of our planning for 2025, as well as celebrating the time of our Grad students at the school.

We also hope that our building projects for the year will be completed given that there has been continual work being carried out around the school. We do have a small project to be completed in that College Council have committed to using Parent Voluntary Contributions to update the cooling in several of the classrooms around the school.

I look forward to seeing everyone return in term 4 as we look to put in a solid last term of work to complete a great year here @ TC.

Rory Opie - Published Author

Congratulations to Rory who has recently published their first book with Amazon, Cracking Crystals. Writing under the name Beri Opie, Rory has always loved writing, you might be familiar with their work in the weekly Next Week @TC, TCNEWS!

Their bio on Amazon shows their passion for representing their community and wanting to promote and celebrate trans, queer and neurodivergent groups. Cracking Crystals is for a readership age of 16-18 years and is already ranked 51 and 55 in Transgender Drama and LGBTQ+ respectively on Amazon!

I'm an Australian, queer, neurodivergent transman with lots of stories to tell. I've been writing for as long as I can remember, and when I was little, I wrote tiny books and slipped them on the shelves in libraries; now look how far I've come. I have a passion for writing, psychology, and activism. It's my ultimate goal in life to write about as many underrepresented life experiences as I can so that people can see themselves in a character. Personally, I've so rarely found a character I could relate to, so I know how important and special it is to look at a character and go "they're just like me!" I put a bit of myself into each of my characters, and I really hope to make other people feel seen within them too.

Aidan Chan - Classical Piano Recital

Congratulations to Aidan who in preparation for sitting his AMusA in piano in October performed his recital at TC earlier this term. The Associate in Music, Australia (AMusA) is a diploma awarded by examination to outstanding candidates in the fields of musical performance and music theory by the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB). As the AMEB is considered the benchmark of music examination boards in Australia, achieving this award is seen as prestigious, and signifies a high performance standard.

Aidan’s Programme:

Sonata No. 15 in D Major, "Pastorale", Op. 28 - Ludwig van Beethoven
Impromptu No. 2 in F Minor, Op. 31 - Gabriel Faure
Prelude in G# Minor, Op. 32 No. 12 - Sergei Rachmaninoff
Prelude and Fugue in E Minor, Op. 87 No. 4 - Dmitri Shostakovich

Well done and we wish you all the best for your examination in October!

State School Spectacular

Congratulations to Kate Dickenson, Dexter Dovey Cribbes and Olivia Stephenson who were part of the 2024 production crew for the State School Spectacular! The annual Spectacular is an invaluable performing arts opportunity for Victoria’s government primary and secondary school students. The program showcases and unites government school communities through working towards a common goal of more students reaching the highest level of achievement in the arts.

Kate was an IPG (independent performer groups) stage manager and worked with the First Nations ensemble, Pesi Mai choir and Victorian College for the deaf, signing choir. Olivia was a Rehearsal Stage Manager working with the mass choir and basically told parents not to come into the seating bank, told mass choir where to go and signed a lot of choir kid t-shirts. She made sure they weren't interrupting the show to go to the bathroom or walking in front of the led signs.

Dex worked with Audio Video (fourth picture on Instagram post). Well done on keeping the on-stage performance run seamlessly behind the scenes!
