A Wild Day Out: Graphic Design Students Take on the Melbourne Zoo
Earlier in Term 1, our two Graphic Design electives embarked on an exciting field trip to the Melbourne Zoo—though not just for a casual stroll! Their challenge this semester is to create “pet food” packaging for a rather unusual set of pets: the zoo’s very own residents.
Armed with sketchbooks and cameras, the students explored exhibits teeming with furry, spiky, and scaly creatures, curating a shortlist of animals they felt most inspired to design for. After returning to TC, they documented their discoveries and made their final picks. From there, they gathered inspiration, generated ideas ideas, refined concepts, and experimented with different materials and techniques.
Their final presentations will be on display outside the Art Hub later next term, and you’ll also get to admire them at the TC Art Exhibition at year’s end. Don’t miss this chance to see how our students transform their zoo-day inspiration into creative packaging designs!
Tipping Point Filming Excursion
Our VCE Media students had the incredible opportunity to witness a live media production of the hit show Tipping Point! 🎥🌟 Not only did they get to see the action unfold in real time, but they also took a fascinating tour of the working studio, gaining insider knowledge of the creative and technical processes that bring the show to life.
An unforgettable day of learning and inspiration—straight from the heart of the media world! 🌍🎤
Top Arts Unit 1&2 Creative Practice
On the 21st of March, TC Art Creative Practice Unit 1/2 students headed off to Melbourne CBD to visit the Top Arts 2025 exhibition at NGV Australia. For three decades, this much-loved annual exhibition has provided a platform for the next generation of artists across the state to showcase their talent, passion and ingenuity. Top Arts 2025 features the most exceptional work from students who completed the VCE study designs of Art Making and Exhibiting and Art Creative Practice in 2024.
During the visit, TC students were fortunate to receive a guided talk from the curator of the Top Arts Exhibition, John Parkinson. John provided invaluable insights into the selection process and the inspiration behind the works displayed. This was followed by a special folio viewing session, where students had the chance to engage directly with the portfolios of the artists showcased in the exhibition. This interactive experience allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the creative process and the effort involved in creating the pieces exhibited.
The excursion provided an inspiring experience for the students, offering them the opportunity to reflect on their own artistic practice and consider how they might continue to develop their portfolios for the upcoming year in the Unit 1/2 Art Creative Practice subject. The visit to NGV Australia also allowed students to visit other running collections such as the Wurrdha Marra exhibition - which aims to share the work and stories of First Nations artists, from emerging to senior figures.
This was a great excursion to expose the students to a diverse range of art and allow them to collect inspiration for the year ahead!
Top ArtsUnit 3&4 Creative Practice
Top Arts Exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria presents VCE student’s artworks showcasing a range of art forms and skills. Our unit 3&4 Arts Creative Practice students attended the gallery to view the A+ folios and artworks, and listen to John Parkinson, gallery curator and education officer, talk about the students work. TC students gained insight into what it takes to succeed in Art Creative Practice. It was a great day where we had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in several gallery spaces to look for art inspiration and to be inspired for the year of art making.
