VCE OES Alpine Camp

πŸ“Έ @dantegriffithphotography

Our Outdoor Education Class ventured to the Victorian High Country at the start of March. We camped at Sheepyard Flat and enjoyed the remote setting and pristine conditions. Students performed water soil and air testing and journaled our experiences. Next day we packed and took the bus up a bush track, from there we set up for our hike and we hiked up to the summit of Mt. Stirling. Craig's Hut is at the top of Stirling and was a magnificent place to spend the evening. Our group camped just below the tree line, cooked our dinner on Trangia stoves and had a session on the Indigenous and non-indigenous history of the area. Last day we packed and hiked back down the mountain to the buss. We had some time in Mansfield and then headed home. What a beautiful place, and an awesome camp.

FTP-OES High Ropes Day

In the middle of March we were able to go to Belgrave and have a day at Treetops Adventure. This is a High ropes course set in the tree canopy just near the Belgrave station for Puffing Billy. After a safety induction we were able to choose our courses to complete. Most of the courses can take about 20min to finish. The have multiple obstacles and challenges to overcome. The flying fox was amazing and lots of students tried the huge "Leap of Faith" which was a jump from a really high platform. We had an amazing time.

VCE PE Fencing

In Week 9, our VCE PE students had a blast with a fencing incursion run by Fencing Victoria! They learned the basics of footwork, attack, and defenseβ€”plus got to put their new skills to the test in some friendly duels. It was a fantastic way to build focus, agility, and strategyβ€”all while having loads of fun. A big thanks to Chris Jones from Fencing Victoria for an unforgettable experience. This incursion provided students an opportunity to relate their learning to Area of Study 1 in Unit 2 of VCE PE.

VCE PE Wheelchair Basketball

VCE PE 1/2 students got to experience WheelTalk with the amazing Peter from Disability Sport & Recreation. Peter shared his story, challenged perspectives on disability, and even got the whole class engaged in several games of Wheelchair Basketball. It was an eye-opening, fun-filled session that left us all inspired and ready to champion inclusion. This incursion was linked with Unit 2 Area of Study 1.

Huge thanks to Peter and the WheelTalk team!

VCE PE Bounce

Our VCE Physical Education students recently took their learning to new heightsβ€”literallyβ€”during an engaging and energetic excursion to Bounce. This action-packed visit wasn't just about having fun (although there was plenty of that!); it was a hands-on opportunity to explore the biomechanical principles that influence movement.

Throughout the session, students participated in a range of trampoline-based activities designed to highlight key concepts such as force production, motion, balance, and coordination. With each jump, twist, and landing, they were able to observe, analyse, and reflect on how their bodies move through spaceβ€”connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world application.

In addition to the physical component, students collected primary data that will form the foundation of their upcoming SAC. This authentic learning experience enabled them to evaluate movement patterns, consider performance improvements, and understand the science behind efficient technique.

Excursions like this bring the VCE PE curriculum to life, making complex ideas more accessible while promoting active, engaged learning. We’re proud of how our students approached the experienceβ€”with curiosity, focus, and a few impressive flips along the way!

Interschool Sport

Division and EMR Swimming

Following on from the success of our TC Pool Party, on Friday 7th March, 11 students progressed to Division Swimming. In an electrifying display of skill and determination, the swimming team dove headfirst into a thrilling competition, emerging victorious in 13 events. The team broke 6 records, and we had two age-group champions: Easton Burns and Jessica Ryles.  Congratulations to all!

On Friday 28th March 6 students then progress to the Eastern Metro Region Swimming competition. In a thrilling demonstration of expertise and perseverance, multiple students placed in their events. Imogen N came second in 18-20-year-olds 100 metre Breaststroke, second in 50 metre Breaststroke. Grace R came third in 17-year-olds 50 metre Freestyle and third in 50 metre Backstroke. Our relay team consisting of Grace R, Mia W, Ivy S and Jessica R also came third. Fantastic effort to all the students that represented TC!

Senior Boys Volleyball

Senior Girls Volleyball

Intermediate Volleyball

It was awesome to see 5 teams representing TC at the intermediate interschool volleyball tournament. All 5 teams displayed great skills and sportpersonship. Special mention to the girls A team for winning the tournament and progressing to the next round πŸ†. They have been training hard at lunch time and we hope they have fun and compete well in a few weeks time 🏐✨.

Intermediate Volleyball at EMR

Our Inter Girls Volleyball team played valiantly at the Eastern Metropolitan Division competition but couldn't keep up with the big guns of 'volleyball schools' like Monbulk and Roweville who had obviously been training for months! Their last game was their best yet with a thrilling first set only a few points from a win. Our girls were wonderful in how they supported each other and built on their skills throughout the day and displayed some awesome athleticism and commitment to the game, losing some skin on the floor and smashing some spikes across the court.

Entry Volleyball

FLE 1 Volleyball

The Entry volleyballers were light on numbers and formed a mixed team for the interschool regional competition, which meant they played with six all day (no subs) in the Boys A Grade competition 🏐. This was a big challenge for our players, most of whom had not played before. Stand out players were Iza and Jarrah who held themselves confidently on the court and helped others to find their feet. It was lovely to see the team support each other and develop skills throughout the day. Well done everyone!

The FLE1 volleyball gala day provided students with a fun and refreshing break from academics, allowing them to apply their problem-solving skills in a competitive setting. They had to think quickly, adapt to different teams, and collaborate to overcome challenges on the court. The experience offered a hands-on way to learn while enjoying the excitement of the game. Whilst they didn't qualify for the next stage, they had fun, tried new things and enjoyed the day out!

Entry Tennis

Two Entry tennis teams went out to Heathmont to meet compete today, battling both the heat and their opponents across the net!

Both teams played well and demonstrated excellent teamwork - crucial in doubles. It was an excellent day out for these budding young athletes, and who knows - maybe one of them will be the next Alex de Minaur! 🎾

ENTRY BASEBALL

A huge congratulations to our Entry Baseball team for an unstoppable performance in the Mullum Division Round Robin last week! πŸ†πŸ”₯ They went undefeated, showcasing incredible teamwork and skill on the field.

In an electrifying final, they secured an 8-2 victory πŸ’₯πŸ‘ and are now heading to the next round! πŸš€βšΎ

Intermediate Tennis

Roland Garros, Flushing Meadows, Wimbledon, Melbourne Park, whilst these venues might be the homes of tennis’ grand slam tournaments, they could not compare to the excitement and action that was taking place at Heathmont Tennis club on Friday the 21st of February where TC’s intermediate tennis team were strutting their stuff.

In a break with tradition, TC decided to field a team of players that had all actually held a tennis racquet before, and some had even had a couple of lessons. This put us at some considerable advantage over much of our competition who seemed mostly ignorant of the basic rules and equipment required to complete a match. This did not stop them from stepping onto court and giving it a go, unfortunately the court they stepped onto was often not the right one leading to considerable confusion and mayhem.

From early in the day it was clear that Auburn High School were going to be our main competition, by being aware of which end to hold their racquets and what to do when the ball came over the net they were a class above and this superior familiarity with the sport started to show itself on the court.

Playing a round robin format TC fielded 2 teams in the A and B pools. The B pool team did a great job taking on all comers with Eden, Jonny, Arlo and Reilly winning at least half of their matches. In the A pool Xavier, Alec, Daniel and Raf chalked up win after win until they came up against the formidable Auburn.

The team put up a good fight but went down 3 sets to 1 with Auburn taking out the title on the day. So we will have to wait another year to see if we can take the title, let’s hope we keep up those tennis lessons so we are in with a chance.
