Students visited Preston Market to investigate the idea of competitive advantage and what gives a business model an advantage over their competitors. They completed a scavenger hunt that required them to analyse different businesses for their competitive advantage.

BM Yakult Factory Tour

The 3/4 Business Management students visited the Yakult Factory in Dandenong in June. This excursion offered an in-depth look into operations management at a well-known probiotic beverage manufacturing company. The visit aligned with their Unit 3, Area of Study 3 Operations Management curriculum, covering topics such as technology development, quality management, corporate social responsibility, and global considerations.

Students witnessed the entire production process, starting with the inputs of machinery to transform water, skim milk powder, sugar, flavoring, and bacteria into Yakult. They observed bottles being manufactured on site, labeled, packaged into five and ten packs, and finally loaded onto crates for supermarket delivery. Additionally, students learned about the on-site quality control measures and got a peek into the laboratory where Yakult samples undergo random testing.

During the tour, each student received a free Yakult drink and an information pack detailing Yakult products and business objectives, which will be extremely useful for exam preparation and school-assessed coursework revision.

Overall, the insights gained from the trip to Yakult have greatly benefited students as they apply and reinforce the content of their classwork, school-assessed assignments, and real-world applications.

English Language Kindergarten visit

Whilst studying language acquisition of children, the 1-2 English language class visited the local kindergarten. They dropped in to play and talk with the children as a way of hearing language development in action. The kindergarten was very welcoming and the children had a lot of fun.
