Athletics Day
Our annual Athletics and Indigenous Games day was once again a stellar experience for everyone involved! The morning was frosty and fresh but as soon as the sun emerged, the day was scintillating and provided the perfect weather for running, jumping, throwing, and hanging out with friends. Wanyara, an Indigenous-owned and led organisation offering cultural games, came along for their 3rd year in a row to teach a range of traditional games including Buroinjin, Jumpinpin, and Puloga. Many students and staff enjoyed the games all day long with Buroinjin being a particular favourite.
This year we opened up the hill for students to enjoy picnics with their friends. It was wonderful to see people hanging out and enjoying time in the fresh air with their mates. There were so many other activities on the day - Esports with Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, art tent, BBQ run by our awesome VM students and staff, coffee and cookies run by the talented Food Tech team, grad parade, and even a dance-off to classics like Nut Bush and YMCA. Thanks to our DJs for spinning tunes on the day!
Of course, the main events were the relay races at the end of the day and it was wonderful to see students and staff of all ages getting out on the track to run for their Community! Congratulations to Blue Community for taking home the trophy!
Thanks to everyone involved and a special congrats to student leaders who stepped up and ran activities on the day! We look forward to more carnivals in 2026!
Interschool sports
From the netball court to the soccer pitch, our teams showed incredible sportsmanship and determination across a range of inter school competitions. With strong performances in basketball, badminton, and AFL, our students represented the school with pride. Congratulations to the girls AFL team who took out the regional AFL gala day and the senior badminton team who won Division and are on track to playing in Regionals next term!
ESDP events
Term 2 was a fantastic period for the ESDP Basketball Program.
We saw the finals of the Victoria 3x3 Basketball competition across all age groups, as well as the opening rounds of the Victorian Secondary Schools Challenge (VSSC) – a statewide competition open to all schools interested in basketball. These are one-day, round-robin tournaments, with the winners progressing to the finals.
All of our teams performed well in the VSSC. However, only our Under 17 Girls team advanced to the finals, where they were narrowly defeated by Rowville and Berwick Secondary Colleges. We use the VSSC tournament as an opportunity to give all students valuable game time, entering multiple teams with a focus on applying what we practise each week in training to real game situations.
Earlier in Term 2, we also played friendly matches against Rowville Secondary College at the State Basketball Centre. These fully timed games, played against strong opposition, provided excellent opportunities for players to test their skills. Both our Under 15 and Under 17 boys and girls teams competed well in these fixtures.
This term also featured the now annual Graduates vs Postgraduates boys basketball game, held at lunchtime in the sports centre. It was a great chance for current students to see some of the players who were part of the 2023 National Division 1 Championship-winning team, including two of our poster athletes, Amos Harvey and Sam Alexander. It was a tightly contested game, with the postgraduates narrowly taking the win.
Looking ahead, Term 3 will host the Champions Cup tournament in Week 3. This is the premier school basketball tournament of the year, with the winning team in each age group earning a place in the Championship Division of the National Schools Basketball Tournament, held in December on the Gold Coast.
Traditionally, we select one team per age group to represent TC. However, due to our strong pool of talent, our senior boys are aiming to enter two teams this year. It promises to be a fantastic opportunity for all students to compete in a high-level, fully timed event.
VCE PE Bounce
Our VCE PE students recently bounced their way through an epic excursion to Bounce, where theory met trampoline! From force and motion to balance and coordination, students explored key biomechanical principles in action while collecting data for their upcoming SAC.
Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) Update
RSE classes have continued throughout Terms 1 and 2 for students in FLE1, FLE2, FLE3, MAP, VM, Inclusive Education, and the International Program. Entry students will participate in RSE through Health classes in Term 4. We utilise a variety of engaging teaching tools and resources, digital, print and artefacts, tailored to students' developmental stages. Learning in Term 1 focused on sexual and reproductive health, while Term 2 explored healthy and respectful relationships, including consent, communication, and mutuality.
Topics covered include:
Human development: conception, birth, and puberty (physical, emotional, and social changes)
Respectful relationships, bodily autonomy and consent
Friendships, crushes, online vs. real-life relationships, gaming, and decision-making
Safer sexual practices: contraception and STIs
Help-seeking strategies and available support services
The consensual vs. non-consensual sharing of images, the law, and critical analysis of image- based abuse, various online behaviours, including the use of dating apps
Themes such as consent, inclusive language (LGBTIQ+), resilience, and respectful relationships are consistently reinforced across all classes. Example of some of the resources used in different classes are pictured.
