Principal's message

Celebrating This Week

A huge congratulations to the Grads and their friends for an amazing Grad Formal last Friday. A packed dance floor and empty tables were the evidence that everyone was having a fabulous time. I hope it has provided happy memories that will last forever.

Also last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the Global Victorian Learning Awards with our International Student Program Coordinator Belle. We shared the day with Yui Sawada, who was awarded a commendation award for student leadership, a truly impressive achievement. This is in a field of all Year 11 International students across the state. Yui was also one of only two students asked to perform a musical piece at the event. Her piece on the clarinet was superb. We left feeling immensely proud of her achievements and the manner in which she represented the school and herself. Well done Yui, and all who have supported her, especially Belle and the International Student Program team, and the music team.

I have received an email from a member of the public complimenting the students who get the 908 buses, highlighting how polite the TC students are, and how considerate of other passengers our students are. It is great to get this feedback and it is a timely reminder that our behaviour in public makes a big impression. Please keep up the good work in the areas the email highlighted like moving bags to allow other passengers to move more easily, using respectful language, being polite to the drivers, and respecting the other passengers. Great job to all the 908 bus students.

The principal team has spent the last two days attending the Government School State Conference which has been an opportunity to engage in the latest thinking about school leadership and to hear from other schools and experts who are leading exciting work in government schools. We will reflect and then bring the information back to TC to see what is useful for our context.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

sTUDENT LUNCHES WITH THE PRINCIPAL

I am still offering students the opportunity to share lunchtime with me (BYO lunch) and I look forward to meeting more of the students in this way.

Book your place via this link, as numbers per session are limited.

Have a great weekend.

Reconciliation Week

This week is Reconciliation Week, an opportunity for all to learn more about the history of First Nations peoples. It’s also a chance to reflect on how you can support and get involved in Reconciliation. Reconciliation is not a one-time achievement, it is an ongoing process.

A way schools promote Reconciliation is through a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). A RAP is a foundation that supplies institutions with an organised approach to accelerate Reconciliation. Check out Templestowe College’s RAP: TC’s Reconciliation Action Plan

At Templestowe College we also work towards Reconciliation through recognising, celebrating and respecting that we are on Wurundjeri Country. The mural displayed on the Sports Centre, titled ‘Yan Kondee Yirramboi-Walking to Tomorrow’, was created by Aboriginal Artist Simone Thomson and depicts Country as it is naturally and untouched. Thompson has paired a detailed explanation with his beautiful piece, you can read it here: ‘Yan Kondee Yirramboi-Walking to Tomorrow’.

Reconciliation Australia recognises five dimensions of Reconciliation:

Race Relations, Goal: Positive two-way relationships built on trust and respect exist between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians throughout society.

Equality and Equity, Goal: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians participate equally and equitably in all areas of life – i.e. we have closed the gaps in life outcomes – and the distinctive individual and collective rights and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are universally recognised and respected. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are self-determining.

Historical Acceptance, Goal: There is widespread acceptance of our nation’s history and agreement that the wrongs of the past will never be repeated—there is truth, justice, healing and historical acceptance.

Institutional Integrity, Goal: Our political, business and community institutions actively support all dimensions of reconciliation.

Unity, Goal:  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and rights are a valued and recognised part of a shared national identity and, as a result, there is national unity.

Why you must care: Reconciliation as stated, is vital in improving the relationships between First Nations peoples and Australians, currently there is constant negative discourse surrounding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Which all stems from a lack of recognition and acknowledgement of land ownership. This why we must keep offering Acknowledgements of Country, as it is a way to show respect to Traditional Owners.

If you’d like to get involved during National Reconciliation Week keep an eye out on events posted in Reconciliation Australia.

See you next week!

Semester 2 Subject Review and Confirmation

Semester 2 Elective Review and Confirmation will open on Monday for the next TWO WEEKS (closing on Friday 5th June).

Students will be given time during connect next week to complete this process. Families will be notified of any changes made to selections via email.

All students that take semester length electives are required to log into the ILP platform to check they are happy with electives chosen (and their back-ups) for next semester (to start in Term 3).

All students will be removed from semester length electives at the end of Semester 1. Students must re-enter their preferences again if they wish to stay in the same electives for Semester 2.

  • For FLE1 and above students, selections will be imported from when they completed this process at the end of 2025.

  • For new students and ENTRY students, selections will NOT be prefilled and they will need to select new semester length electives for Semester 2.

These selections are really important to get right. Please carefully consider their elective preferences and back-ups as there will not be an opportunity to request changes after this process.

A list of all Semester 2 subjects can be found here:

*Please note that Animal Industry Skills is a new subject for Semester 2 this year and the blocking will be finalised once selections are completed.

If students are not sure what subjects are semester long or yearlong you can check on the subject handbook website (TC Subject Selection Handbook) or talk to their connect mentor.

Please READ all the information on the ILP platform to help select electives.
