Principal's message

This week has seen the VCE students sit the GAT. One of the benefits of completing the GAT is that for a lot of our cohort it is a practice for the formal end of year VCAA Exams. The students were well prepared and completed the GAT without incident. A special thanks to Leija Harman for her leadership in making this all happen with as little stress as possible.

Continuing on the VCE discussion I was visited by the CEO of the VCAA this week where we discussed how the authority can support the students and the school. Amongst many topics, we discussed the concept of micro-credentials being a part of VCE assessment and used as part of the transition between high school and tertiary study.

We welcomed back our Red Earth – Central Australia tour group this week. The trip has achieved its goals of having our students engage deeply with local communities. Connecting with a family on Country is an amazing opportunity and I have been told our students were incredibly engaged and respectful. I am thrilled that they have had this experience.

The normal business continued with the lunchtime volleyball, Grad movie night, MAP Theatre Tour, the beginning of Unit 2 for VCE, and the lunchtime clubs continuing.

Leaving School at Recess/Lunch times

Our attendance policy allows Grad students to leave the school when they do not have scheduled classes. FLE4 students can arrive late/leave early if their first or last class is cancelled due to teacher absence.

All other students need to remain on site for the entire school day. This is so the school can discharge its duty of care.

Students who are found to be offsite at recess and lunchtime will be noted. Students who repeat this behaviour will be followed by CET.

Regards,
Daryl Bennett
Principal

United Nations Forum

Next week our FLE1 students will take part in the annual United Nations Forum, a Project-Based Learning experience exploring global issues. It will run across Thursday and Friday next week. Students will not attend their usual classes on those days.

After hearing from La Trobe University Global Politics lecturer Daniel Bray, students selected a focus area and over two days, they will represent a country, research its position and participate in a formal United Nations forum.

This experience has the potential to develop a range of useful skills and knowledge including learning about global issues, the role of the United Nations and democracy, communication, collaboration, advocacy and empathy in a fun and engaging way.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Meg Bailey via mbai@tc.vic.edu.au.

Warm regards,

(For FLE2, FLE3 and FLE4 students only)

Applications are now open for students wishing to undertake a VETDSS (Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students) course in 2027 as part of their secondary education program.

VET courses provide students with the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on skills, explore career pathways and work towards nationally recognised qualifications while completing their schooling.

To learn more about the VETDSS program and the courses available, please follow this VETDSS 2027 link. Here you will find:

  • A VET information presentation video

  • VET course guides and information about each program

Applications close on Friday 7 August (the end of Week 4, Term 3). Applications received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If you are considering undertaking a VET course, we recommend submitting an application, even if you are still deciding. Applications can be withdrawn at a later date if circumstances change.

Important: Current first-year VET students who wish to continue into the second year of their program in 2027 must submit a new application. Enrolments do not automatically roll over from one year to the next.

If you have any questions about VETDSS courses or the application process, please contact the school's VET Coordinator.
