Traffic safety reminder
Following feedback from our local community, we remind all parents, carers, and students driving into or around the school to be mindful of the speed limit, our neighbours, and the high volume of pedestrian traffic during drop-off and pick-up times.
We appreciate your support in keeping our students and neighbours safe. 💙

Dadication: The Story and Celebration of Father’s Day at Templestowe College
On the first Sunday of September, families and friends all over Australia, including those at Templestowe College, take time to celebrate the important people who have made a difference in their lives. 💙While many people use this day to honour dads, stepdads, grandfathers, or father figures, it’s also a great opportunity to show appreciation to anyone who supports, guides, or cares for us, no matter who they are.
Father’s Day actually started in the early 1900s as a way to recognise the role caring adults play in our lives. 👨👧👦The first event took place in 1908 in Fairmont, West Virginia in the US, thanks to Grace Golden Clayton, who wanted to honour fathers who had died in a mining accident. But it wasn’t until Sonora Smart Dodd, from Spokane, Washington, pushed for a day to celebrate her own father, who had raised six children, that Father’s Day really took off. Washington State held the first official Father’s Day in 1910.
Unlike Mother’s Day, which was quickly embraced, Father’s Day took a while to catch on. Some people thought it was just a way for shops to make more profit, and others didn’t think it needed the same kind of celebration. 🎁It wasn’t until 1972 that the US made Father’s Day a permanent holiday!
These days, Father’s Day is about more than just marking a date on the calendar. It’s a chance for us to thank the people, like dads, grandads, step-parents, carers, mentors, or family friends, who support and inspire us. 💛What matters most is the positive role someone plays in our lives, not just their title or biological connection.
So what can you do to celebrate?
Father’s Day is just around the corner, so now’s the perfect time to plan something fun or meaningful! Here are some ideas to help you celebrate and make the day special for whoever you want to appreciate:
🎉 How to celebrate:
🍽️ Share a meal
🌳 Get outdoors
🎨 DIY gifts
⚽ Shared hobbies
🛀 Gift of relaxation
💌 Acts of kindness
From its beginnings in the US to today’s Australian celebrations, Father’s Day has changed a lot over time.
No matter who you’re honouring, whether it be a dad, guardian, mentor, family friend, or anyone who’s played a caring role, this day is about showing gratitude to those who support, guide, and inspire us. 🙏
