VCE ATTENDANCE PROCESSES REMINDERS

A reminder about the following processes to do with Attendance @TC

  • Students who are completing a VCE subject must achieve an attendance requirement of 80% or over to pass the subject

  • The final date for Unit 4 is Friday 19th September and for Unit 2 subjects is Friday 31st October 2025. Student absence and reason for absence should be recorded via the Compass portal on the day of absence

A valid form of medical certificate is from one of the following medical practitioners: GP, hospital, paediatrician, physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropractor, orthopaedic surgeon, dentist, psychologist or psychiatrist.

  • A reminder that students studying VCE should not be taking holidays during term time as this will severely affect their attendance and ability to complete course work and pass subjects

  • The best way to improve attendance is to attend!

  • If you believe your student was in class but has been marked absent, please contact the relevant classroom teacher to discuss

Should you have any queries regarding attendance, or if you would like further support from the school, please contact the relevant Community Team.

Lunch activities in the Sports Centre

Come along and join in the sports activities occurring every Monday, Tuesday & Thursday at lunchtime in the Sports Centre! These lunchtime activities are open for everyone and do not require you to be involved in any interschool sports teams to participate.

🏐By popular demand we have Volleyball running on Mondays, which has forever been a huge hit! Three courts set up allowing for 6 teams to participate at the one time with a rotating roster. Don’t have a team? Rock up and we’ll find a team for you to join!

⚽Tuesday is Soccer Day! One large match with teams being arranged upon arrival and a student referee keeping order.

🏸⛹🏽Thursday is a sports rotating roster! This day is utilised to have social sports running that align with upcoming interschool sports competing this term, such as basketball, badminton, volleyball, netball & more.

These lunch times are heaps of fun, super inclusive and a great way to connect with your peers. We would love to see you there!

If you have questions, please contact Jacinta via Teams.

Seeking donations of jewellery making materials

A key focus of Jewellery Making at TC is sustainability, where students are encouraged to repurpose, upcycle, and thoughtfully consider the long-term impact of their creations.

To support this goal, we are seeking donations of materials that can be creatively reused in our projects, including:

  • Broken or unwanted jewellery

  • Nickel silver cutlery

  • Metal pieces or small hardware

  • Fabric scraps and threads

These items are often found in op-shops, markets, or tucked away at home and no longer needed.

Donations can be dropped off at the TC Reception for room D10 or sent in with your participating student.

Thank you for supporting our mission to foster sustainable design practices and inspire future career pathways for our young people.

A Day of Discovery: TC’s Subject Expo

Staff with their “babies” at the Health and Human Development Stand

On Wednesday, August 6th, TC's annual subject expo was a resounding success, held in Swing from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. This engaging event not only showcased the vibrant array of electives and core classes available at TC but also served as a platform for students and parents to gain valuable insights into the academic pathways offered to them.

The atmosphere buzzed with curiosity as attendees explored various subject stalls, engaged in discussions with teachers, and gathered essential information for their future endeavours.

A standout moment of the expo was the opportunity for people to meet our new acting Principal, Daryl Bennett. His presence and enthusiasm for the school's vision truly energised the event.

One of the most distinctive features of TC is the Animals Program, which truly captures the attention of students of all age groups, and especially those interested in animal husbandry. The Feathers and Fur elective offers students a hands-on experience, allowing them to care for TC's various farm animals, poultry and a diverse range of native and exotic birds. Through this student-led program, students not only learn about animal welfare but also gain a profound knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities that come with it. Additionally, the Reptiles and Fish classes provide an equally exciting opportunity where students can engage directly with different species of skink, trout and turtles! This unique exposure helps nurture compassion and awareness of biodiversity among young learners and serves as a great experience to boost leadership and communication skills.

At both 3 PM and 4 PM, presentations on Flexible Learning were held for Entry (Year 7) students and their families. These sessions were particularly beneficial as they aimed to provide insight into the transition from Entry to Flexible Learning environments (FLE). Families learned about the exciting opportunities that await students in the coming years, emphasising personalised learning experiences that cater to individual strengths and interests!

As the event unfolded, students eagerly explored desired subject stalls, which showcased electives ranging from Zoology to Baking. Each table featured dedicated teachers and students, and the collaboration fostered a feeling of student empowerment as people explored academic pursuits.

Over the next few weeks students will have the chance to unpack their desired subjects with their Connect classes. This process is essential for building on career action plans in preparation for the Course Counselling Day on the 27th of August.

The subject expo not only celebrated the electives available but underscored the importance of our core classes, ensuring students understood how each subject contributes to their experience at TC.

Overall, the expo was a remarkable event that highlighted the diverse opportunities on offer at TC, encouraging students to embrace their interests and aspirations.
