Principal announcement

As you may have seen on Compass, Daryl Bennett has been provisionally appointed principal, commencing January 2026.

Daryl has been serving as our acting principal since July and says he is looking forward to "continuing the school’s long-standing culture of respect, innovation and student-centred learning, while sharpening its focus on meeting the evolving needs of local families and equipping students with the skills and pathways they need for their future."

College Council President Claire O’Sullivan shared: “Daryl’s dedication to working with staff, students and families has been evident from the moment he stepped into the acting principal role. We are delighted to welcome him as principal and look forward to the leadership, warmth and stability he will bring to Templestowe College.”

Please join us in welcoming Daryl — officially! ✨

Change to school council requirements

From 2026, parents, carers and community members who would like to join the school council need a working with children check (WWCC) to nominate. If you are considering nominating for school council, and don’t already have a WWCC, I encourage you to apply for a volunteer WWCC as soon as possible. This will allow for processing times, which are estimated to be from 3 to 12 weeks.

Please note that if you do not hold a WWCC, you will not be able to nominate for school council, so it is vital that you prepare in advance. Obtaining a WWCC is free for volunteers, and you can apply online at Service Victoria.

When applying for your volunteer WWCC, please nominate the Department of Education as the organisation you are working for.

If you already hold an employee WWCC, you do not need to obtain a volunteer WWCC to nominate for school council.

Victorian Institute of Teaching-registered teachers and school students who are interested in joining school council are not required to obtain a WWCC.

Current parents and community members of school council do not need to apply for a WWCC immediately. Current members only need a WWCC if their term ends and they wish to nominate or be co-opted again.

For more information, refer to Ministerial Order 1280 (Constitution of Government School Councils) 2020.

Claire O’Sullivan

Activities Week – important information

🎉🎉Next week is 'Activities Week' at TC. Each period there will be three or more activity options for students to sign up for. These will run on site in our available classrooms. There will not be an opt-out option for students who are on site — they will need to be in one of these activity rooms, not hanging out in S-Wing or the Hub. Staff who not running the activities will be in planning meetings for 2026 and won't be able to supervise these spaces.

At 9:10am each morning, students who are on site will go to S-Wing and write their names down for each of the activity sessions they are planning to attend and a roll will be taken manually. Students will then be responsible for attending these sessions throughout the day.

🥪Please note: the canteen will not be open to students during activities week, so students who come on site will need to remember to bring their lunch with them.

Please see the options available for the week at right.

Locker clear out

🛅

Locker clear out 🛅

Locker clear out - please clear out your locker by the end of today

Each year we require students to empty their lockers and remove their locks. Lockers are then cleaned ready for reallocation for the next year.

Students are asked to have their lockers cleared by the end of the school day on Friday 5 December.

On Wednesday December 10th, any locks remaining on lockers will be removed and the contents collected or thrown out.

Unnamed but usable items will be donated to the Community Teams for use by others as needed.

Students will be messaged on Teams that labelled items have been found in a locker and that they are requested to collect these from S-Wing.

Named items will be bagged and stored in S-Wing until Friday 13 February 2026. After this date, items will be donated to charities.

Phone lockers continue to be available for student use.

Headstart Week 🚀📚

As we approach the end of the year and begin the final stretch of the school term, anticipation has built for one of TC’s most valuable annual traditions that took place in week nine: Headstart. 🌟 This annual system offers students and staff the opportunity to experience and step into their new timetables a week early, providing a seamless transition into the upcoming year. “I love getting to meet my new classmates,” says FLE3 student Amy. “Getting to know everyone makes me eager for next year.” 💜👯‍♀️

Unlike a typical orientation, which only briefly introduces students to their classmates and teachers, Headstart is an immersive experience where TC students are able to learn about their courses and get a feel for the subject and its purpose. 🤓📘

VCE student Ruby says; “Headstart is a great way for me to familiarise myself with my 3&4 class requirements,” aiding in preparation for exams next year. “I’m able to ask my teachers questions before the holidays, so I go into the new year with a sense of confidence in my learning,” she says. 🎓✏️

As we prepare to step away from TC’s campus for the summer holidays, instead of spending the break wondering what new teachers will be like or stressing about unfamiliar subjects, students can actually relax and enjoy their time off. They can spend time with family, sleep in and enjoy the festive season without that nagging anxiety about the unknown year ahead. ☀️🎄🌟

And as the final week draws near, this is one of my final articles for TC News. I’m stepping down from my role as TC’s Journalist to let someone new take the reins as I focus on my studies. 🎤➡️📚

It’s been an extraordinary privilege to be able to cover the stories that matter to our school community for the past two years, and I’m grateful for the opportunity thanks to TC’s employability skills program. 💫💜

Congratulations and best wishes to Dara Cucos, who will be your 2026 TC Journalist! 🌟📝
