eLITE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Term 3 was the time for the main basketball tournament for the ESDP basketball program, the Champion’s Cup 🏆. The tournament is held in Under 15, 17 & 20 age groups and it attracts the best basketball schools from around Victoria – victory in the Champion’s Cup gives a school automatic entry into the Championship Division of the National Schools tournament held on the Gold Coast each December.
Our teams all competed very well 💪 in the event with each team making at least the quarter finals. Our Intermediate girls 🏀 were the only team to advance to the second day of the tournament called ‘The Elite 8” where they also made the final four teams 🔥 before going down to Rowville Secondary College in the semifinal. Great job by all the girls 👏.
Although our senior boys 🏀 advanced to the quarter finals, they got unlucky with a quirk in the fixture matching them up against undefeated event favorites Rowville. It was a great game but we went down by six points. No team was able to get that close to Rowville in Senior Elite 8, but we had our chance.
Senior Boys basketball Team - State Champions!
Other events for the term were the regional finals of the School Sport Victoria Seniors where our Senior boys defeated both Rowville Secondary and Box Hill Secondary Colleges to advance to the State Finals 🥇 On the second last day of term they played Sacred Heart Kyenton at Melbourne Sports Centre and came home with the State Championship!
The Intermediate age SSV tournament was held midterm with both our boys’ and girls’ teams advancing to the next stage of the event 🚀 to be held in Term 4.
Also in the last week of the term were the Year 7 and Year 8 equivalent SSV tournaments where all our first teams advanced to the next stage of the event 🎯 also to be held in Term 4.
Term three also saw popular part time staff member Tayha Watkins leave to pursue her WNBL career with the Canberra Capitals 🏀. Tayha was a student in the TC Basketball program from Entry through to her graduating year and worked on our coaching staff for the past three years. We will miss her but wish her all the best as she has a crack at making a career in the WNBL 💪
Interschool sports
Term 3 was an exciting and action-packed term for interschool sport, with a large number of students representing TC across the Mullum Division and Eastern Metro Region competitions. Basketball and table tennis were the most popular sports, attracting fantastic participation and team spirit.
Our Intermediate and FLE 1 teams achieved outstanding results, winning both the boys’ and girls’ basketball, as well as boys’ table tennis. At the senior level, our boys’ badminton and table tennis teams proudly competed at the Eastern Metro Region, showcasing determination and skill against strong opposition.
A special mention goes to the Senior Boys Basketball team, who progressed all the way to the State Basketball Finals - an amazing achievement.
Term 3 also saw our students shine at the Mullum Division Athletics.
Eden Bayley named 15YO Age Group Champion
Eden Bayley was named the 15-year-old Age Group Champion, after an outstanding performance winning the 400m, 800m, and setting a record in the 1500m.

The Senior Ultimate Frisbee Team
Intermediate Table Tennis
🏓 Our intermediate table tennis team, made up of Yutong, Ethan, Tom, and Ryo, represented TC with pride at the recent interschool competition. The team was unstoppable, winning every game in their group before defeating the winner of the other group in the final playoff.
Sportsmanship and teamwork were on full display. The doubles matches were played with great cooperation and strategy, and all four players demonstrated the depth of talent in the team. Yutong’s strong technique stood out, while Ryo impressed not only with his powerful performance as number four but also by making new friends from other schools. Ethan and Tom also brought consistency and composure that helped drive the team’s success.
Congratulations to our table tennis champions!
Division Athletics Carnival
🏃♀️🏃♂️ On a cold and windy day, our TC athletes rose to the challenge and delivered an inspiring display of determination, skill, and community spirit at the Division Athletics Carnival.
Highlights included Eldin taking out his sprint, Ivy dominating in shot put and Eden shining in multiple long-distance events to be crowned age champion, all with his trademark smile. Katie impressed across both track and field, while Jess pushed herself to the limit in multiple races. Mia, Fred and Zoe gave everything in their running and distance events, and Jasper, Jarra and Quenya starred in the field. Rohan and Patrick soared with outstanding efforts in both high and long jump.
It was also wonderful to see parents braving the weather to cheer on our students, a true example of community engagement. A special mention goes to Chris, whose buttery-smooth voice on the microphone kept the day running seamlessly.
Congratulations to all students who competed. You represented TC with pride, resilience, and great sportsmanship.
