HOW TO BOOK 

📅 Bookings for will open for families at 5:00pm on Friday 31 July. All bookings are made through Compass. 

Just a reminder our semester 2 SPTCs are running on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 August and we look forward to connecting with families to talk about student progress and learning.  

Families can choose between online, in-person conferences or a combination of the two.

Over the next three weeks, students will be supported during Connect to explore the 2027 Subject Selection website and create or update their 5-year plans.  

In preparation for this process, which commences in Connect on Friday, 14 August, we encourage you and your child to attend the SPTCs on Tuesday, 11 August and/or Wednesday, 12 August. These conferences provide an excellent opportunity to discuss your child's progress, explore future pathways, discuss English and Maths subject recommendations, and ask any questions you may have about their subject choices for 2027.  

We are currently busy updating our Subject Selection website: www.subjects.tc.vic.edu.au and aim to have this available prior to our SPTCs.  The website will include descriptions of our 2027 subject offerings and suggested pathways, as well as videos and information to support you and your child to navigate the subject selection process.  

Subject selections will be finalised during our Course Counselling Day on Wednesday, 26 August. This will be a 15-minute online meeting involving you, your child and their Connect mentor. The purpose of the meeting is to review their 5-year plan and confirm their 2027 subjects. Bookings will open on Compass Friday 14 August at 5:00pm.  

I am writing to ask for your support in discussing your child's subject selections and 5-year plan before your Course Counselling meeting. Having these conversations in advance will help ensure the meeting is focused, productive and as straightforward as possible.

Now that students have settled into their new Semester Two elective subjects it is a good time to revisit the TC Resource List to check that you have bought all of the required items for their learning.

All subjects have a curriculum contribution listed on the Resource List. These contributions help us continue to provide a high standard of engaging activities and resources for our classes. These contributions can be paid through Campion, Compass or directly through the school office and we are very grateful for any additional support you can provide.

Students in Pre General, Pre Methods and Practical Math classes will be attending a one period session next week on road safety awareness.

Road Smart Interactive is a free Victorian Government road safety education incursion program for Years 9, 10, 11 and VCE Vocational Major (VM) students. It is available for all Victorian secondary schools and reflects contemporary, best practice approaches to road safety education. Road Smart Interactive uses the latest immersive technology to engage students in thinking about how they can be part of the solution to making everyone safer on our roads.

This week in the Permaculture Farm and Garden Program

 This Sunday 2nd August, we have our Working Bee from 9am-12pm. Come along, do some gardening with some like-minded TC families and enjoy some healthy fresh air (and morning tea!). All tools and good vibes provided!

Bored at lunch? Every Thursday at lunchtime we run Mini Permaculture Workshops in S-wing. Last week we sliced up our TC-grown kiwi fruit and put them in the dehydrator. This week we ate them together and learn how to make little planter pots out of newspaper and toilet rolls. Easy, fun and useful!

This year our young artists, writers, and musos were encouraged to enter a work that responded to this year's Reconciliation Week theme of "All In". Ngoon godjin (thank you) to everyone who submitted their creative works. The judges were impressed with how diverse and thoughtful the responses were and how you engaged with a theme that aims to draw all Australians into an active process of learning and listening. We had poems, paintings, photography, and even recipes.

Stages of White Reconciliation

I have just learnt the history that's benefited me.

My heart aches, my body shakes.

I need to do something before it's too late.

The land where I was born feels like a place I can't call home.

My life feels like it's built out of bones.

Admitting whiteness feels like confessing a crime.

Participating in truth-telling, like standing in court

History, like blood stains, the Voice a mark of shame.

But I am not the one in jail.

I am not the one who knows what to say.

Surely my witness will get in the way?

I am not the one being persecuted, so why do I stand here ready to be executed?

My voice should not be louder than those who were silenced.

But it is not better to remain quiet.

White guilt is not what reconciliation relies on.

I am not alone; when I do not know, I choose to learn.

They say:

Make this place your home.

Australia is ours to own.

Add to the choir

Raise your voices higher.

May the many support the few

Reconciliation does not exist without you.

Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group update

 You may not know but at TC we have a working group that champions the school's Reconciliation work. We welcome interested students, parents, and community members to join us in developing our plan and implementing the many initiatives across the school to foster understanding and genuine engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and perspectives. We are working towards publishing our RAP later this term so all input is welcome!

We are excited to welcome expressions of interest for this year's Arts Immersion Camp held in week 10 this term (Tues Sept 15-Thurs Sept 17) at Seacroft Estate, Apollo Bay. This camp is for serious young artists, writers, song-writers or photographers to spend three days developing their arts practice. Interested artists should send a 100-word artistic brief outlining their proposed focus and how the camp will broaden their art practice along with a sample of their work to RGR@tc.vic.edu.au by Monday Aug 10 4pm. Places are limited and applicants will be chosen based on the quality of their artistic brief and intended focus. 

UNLEASH is back again his year on Friday Sept 11 5:30-9:30pm. There will be loads of bands, food, soft drink, friends, and fun! 

All TC students are welcome and anyone U18 from other schools can join as well so be sure to opt-in on the Compass event when it opens soon. Tickets are only $10! 

As part of having a School Bus Program, we are required to collect information about students that are using the buses.

It is very important that all students that use the Panorama Bus Service fill in this form (or a parent carer on the student's behalf). If you do not fill in the form, it may impact your future place on the Bus Roll. 

Financial Literacy

A new program is being set up for students which will teach and support them with financial literacy. As a student myself, when I started looking to get a job there were so many things I didn’t know how to do or what I even needed to qualify for a job.

The hope is for this program to provide students with support as they take on more responsibilities. Currently it is in the trial stage and won’t be open to all students, but eventually the plan is to provide every year level with relevant support around an area in financial literacy which best suits their needs.

Some identified areas are:

💼 How to get a job and rights as an employee

🏠 Moving out of home

🐶 Owning a pet

🚗 The cost of a car

⚠️ How to spot a scam

💰 How to save and set up budget plans
