Welcome back to Term 3.  

I hope everyone had an enjoyable break. This week I have really enjoyed finding out what the students got up to in the holidays. I am constantly amazed by the incredible travel stories from all over the world. This is matched with the delight from some at just taking it easy and not waking to an alarm (me included). Many recount the joy at being able to spend time with friends and family in a variety of activities. No matter what the holiday experience, there was a joy at being back at TC on Tuesday to catch up with friends.  

The staff started the term with a quick review of our work from term 2, and then an introduction of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0. The areas we are focussing on this year are a review of the current thinking around the science of learning so we can reflect on our teaching practice, curriculum documentation, and developing a multi-tiered system of supports(MTSS).  MTSS is the education industry’s way of saying we have an agreed approach to what we can expect at school and what we will do to support our students at the different levels of need. This is work that the staff will commence and then invite students to be involved in.  🧑‍💻📔🧑‍🏫

Planning for 2027 is starting and one decision we are needing to make is around the introduction of a Language Other Than English (LOTE). In making the decision we have been discussing multiple options. One of the most significant factors is the ability to recruit staff into a LOTE position. LOTE teachers are difficult to find, and the more unique a LOTE, the more challenging this can be. After speaking to students and School Council we have decided to survey the community to see what the preferences are regarding LOTE. We can then try to recruit to facilitate staff, and if needed review the position if we cannot find appropriate staff.  If you are interested in expressing your opinion, please complete the MS form at Templestowe College LOTE Selection – Fill out form 

ℹ️ I will send an update on the proposed industrial action. This is a very dynamic space with the Government putting a new offer on the table this morning. Please continue to watch Compass for updates for the impact on school operations next week.

A reminder about the following processes to do with Attendance @TC:

• Students who are completing a VCE subject must achieve an attendance requirement of 80% or over to pass the subject

• The final date for attendance for Unit 4 is Friday 18th September and for Unit 2 is Friday 30th October 2026. You should be looking at your student’s attendance on Compass regularly – look at the VCE column

• Student absence and reason for absence should be recorded via Compass on the day of absence

• Any students who miss a VCE class must provide a medical certificate to the school to have that attendance approved under Department of Education guidelines. A valid form of medical certificate is from one of the following medical practitioners: GP, hospital, paediatrician, physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropractor, orthopaedic surgeon, dentist, psychologist or psychiatrist.

• A reminder that students studying VCE should not be taking holidays during term time as this will severely affect their attendance and ability to complete course work and pass subjects

• The best way to improve attendance is to attend!

• If you believe your student was in class but has been marked absent, please contact the relevant classroom teacher to discuss

Student Parent Teacher Conferences (SPTC’s) 

Our semester 2 SPTC’s are running on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 August and we look forward to connecting with families to talk about student progress and learning.  

Families can choose between online, in-person conferences or a combination of the two.  

DATES 

🖥️Online: Tuesday 11 August, 10:30am-6:00pm– no scheduled classes this day 

🧑‍🧑‍🧒In person: Wednesday 12 August, 8:30am-3:30pm– no scheduled classes this day 

HOW TO BOOK 

📅 Bookings for will open for families at 5:00pm on Friday 31 July. All bookings are made through Compass. 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION 

• Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 August are student-free days, with no scheduled classes running. Students should only attend school with their families for the Student Parent Teacher Conferences.  

• Students are strongly encouraged to attend the conferences with their family member/s.  

• Conferences are 7 minutes in duration. If you have questions or concerns that are not addressed during your timeslot, we encourage you to follow up by reaching out to staff via phone or email. We are unable to extend times on the day.  

• When making bookings for onsite conferences please avoid making back to back appointments to allow sufficient time to travel between each.  

For any FLE3 and FLE4 students that have already put their name down to attend TC’s Senior Formal on Friday 21 August, the deadline for payment and consent is Wednesday 22 July.

Payment is due via Trybooking.
Consent is due via the Compass Parent Portal.

Streetsense After-School Self Defence Program - Term 3 sign-ups now open

After Term 2's highly successful program, we are excited to offer places in Term 3's after-school Streetsense Self Defence program!  

This program teaches real life situational awareness, de-escalation techniques, self defence skills, and cyber safety in an inclusive, safe, and fun environment suitable for students of all ages, genders, and abilities.

The program happens on Wednesday afternoon after school from 2:15-3:15pm in S04 starting in Week 3.

 The 8 week program costs $245.

Previous participants are encourage to re-enrol as the program will cover some new material and keep building on self-defence skills. New participants are warmly encouraged to enrol as they will gain real world safety skills and self-confidence.

Applications are now open for students wishing to undertake a VETDSS (Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students) course in 2027 as part of their secondary education program. 

VET courses provide students with the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on skills, explore career pathways and work towards nationally recognised qualifications while completing their schooling.

Applications close on Friday 7 August (the end of Week 4, Term 3). Applications received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

As places in VETDSS courses are limited, students are encouraged to apply as early as possible to maximise their chances of securing a place in their preferred course. If you are considering undertaking a VET course, we recommend submitting an application, even if you are still deciding. Applications can be withdrawn at a later date if circumstances change. 

Important: Current first-year VET students who wish to continue into the second year of their program in 2027 must submit a new application. Enrolments do not automatically roll over from one year to the next.

For current FLE 3 students only 

Current FLE 3 students are invited to apply for the 2027 VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) program. 

The VCE VM is a practical and flexible senior secondary pathway designed for students who enjoy hands-on learning and want to develop skills for further education, training, apprenticeships, traineeships or employment. It combines literacy, numeracy, personal development and work-related learning with vocational education opportunities.

Applications for the 2027 VCE VM program close on Friday 24 July. Applications received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students and their parents/carers will be invited to attend an interview early in Term 3 to discuss their suitability for the program. 

Please note that Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a compulsory component of the VCE VM program. Students considering this pathway should also visit this link VET External — TC Subject Selection Handbook to learn more about the VET options available and access the VET application form. 

As places in the VCE VM program may be limited, students who are considering this pathway are encouraged to submit an application. You can always decline an offer at a later date if you decide that another pathway is a better fit.

Term 3 Interschool Sport events signs up are now open. Pay attention to the form deadline. Each year group has a different deadline. 

Inters (FLE2 + FLE 3) - form closes June 30th: INTERS Interschool Sports - Term 3 2026 – Fill in form
Year 8 (Entry) - form closes July 28th: Year 8 (FLE 1) Interschool Sports - Term 3 2026 – Fill in form
Year 7 (FLE1) - form closes August 3rd: Year 7 (ENTRY) Interschool Sports - Term 3 2026 – Fill in form

Final call for anyone that is interested in attending the TC Animals Trivia Night on Friday 24 July. Anyone can now book on tables 29, 30, 31 and 32, they will be made up of small groups who did not pre-book a table to 10. Please do not book tickets on the tables that have been booked by other people. 

We'd love to see the event sell out, so if you're looking for a fun night out, gather some friends and come along to show your support.
