4/2/2022

From Our Principal

I would really briefly like to welcome everyone back to 2022!

There will be lots of information in this weeks announcement as it is the first of the year, and so please do read on through. It has been great to see everyone return to learning onsite here at TC.

We have an exciting year ahead. In term 1, the school will be undertaking its four year review to develop a strategic plan for 2022 - 2025. We had already started this process in term 4 of last year when we had collected parent feedback through the parent feedback survey, the data collected from parents on the return to onsite learning, the student survey that all students were asked to complete in term 4, and the work carried out by staff on the Melbourne Cup Monday. There is lots more to do around this process, which I look forward to updating you on later in the term.

For now though, we concentrate on our three main priorities for term 1 of:

  • Attendance and Engagement

  • Wellbeing and social integration

  • Love of learning and sense of purpose

Over the next few weeks there will continue to be lots of information that parents will receive through email. We will always endeavour to ensure that we keep it specific to the relevant families so that you do not miss any information sent through emails.

Wishing you a safe weekend,

Peter

New Announcements

Rapid Antigen Tests Still Available for Collection

We still have some RAT tests available for collection. These can be collected from the General Office. We will release more at either the end of next week, or beginning of the following week depending on stock delivered to us. All students are highly encouraged to test twice per week. We recommend on a Monday morning and Wednesday as a good starting point.

Reporting of Positive RAT (oR PCR) Test

If your child reports a positive RAT test result, please let the school know by emailing connect@tc.vic.edu.au and follow the instruction below (this has been copied and pasted from the DET information sent to us):

“If staff or students receive a positive test result at any time, they must report this through the Department of Health system (Rapid antigen tests | Coronavirus Victoria) or via the coronavirus hotline at 1800 675 398.

Students (or their parents) must also report a positive result to their school, either through the VicEd COVID portal or by phone or written notification; this is so the school can support them, record that they will be absent while in 7-day isolation, and let the rest of the school community know there has been a positive case onsite and that they should monitor for symptoms.

All students and staff who return a positive result from a rapid antigen test should also follow the latest advice at https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/rapid-antigen-tests.

Students who report a positive result must isolate for seven days and not attend school during that period.

Where a student is a household contact of a positive case (that is, they have spent more than four hours with someone who has COVID-19 inside a house, accommodation, or care facility) they must inform the school and isolate for seven days and not attend school during that period.

Email Notifications of Positive COVID Cases to Families

A reminder that we will send an email to families that is a Department of Education template should we have positive cases on site at TC. If you receive one of these, please read it and pass on the information to your student.

Students Riding to School and Bike Storage

We have two bike rack spaces for students to secure their bikes when riding to and from school.

The first is by the Administration entrance to A Wing and the second is along the side of S Wing nearest to the Permaculture and Animals spaces.

All students with bikes must use these designated spaces for bike storage throughout the day.

We look forward to seeing as many students as possible riding bikes to school as we all look for different ways to reduce of environmental footprint.

Subject Changes Semester 1 2022

Subject changes are now open for students to complete for semester 1. The form is located on teams via students community channel and has detailed information about what to provide to request a change. This year the process is the same for all students and the same form can be used for VCE, curriculum specified subjects or electives.

Once a request is submitted the following process happens:

  1. Request reviewed by Sophie Ellis

  2. If more information is needed Sophie will contact the student via teams chat for clarification, or pass onto careers for VCE subject discussions.

  3. Once actioned on the database a message will be sent to the student and a Compass Chronicle completed to alert families of the change.

  4. Students can then start their new class the next day when they see the change appear on Compass.

The deadline for requesting a change is next Friday the 11th of February.

Please be aware that the subject changes are not a guarantee or always possible as many subjects are now full but we will do our best to accommodate students requests. We are working through these changes as quickly as possible while making sure every student receives the correct advice and support so changes may take a few days to be completed.
