Purpose

The parking of cars and other vehicles in and around the school grounds is a daily necessity, but also raises a number of safety and traffic issues that must be well managed.

This policy aims to ensure that car and vehicle parking in and around the school grounds is orderly, safe and in accordance with the law.

Implementation

  • The parking of any vehicle inside the school grounds is at the discretion of the principal.

  • Parking is only permitted in designated areas.

  • At times of heavy congestion for events, parking will be permitted on the oval and this permission will be indicated to parents/carers at the school gates through the use of signage.

  • Student drop off and pick up at the beginning and end of the school day should take place at the area by the Astroturf basketball courts.

  • During peak times (generally between 8:30am and 9:15am Monday to Friday and 3:15pm to 3:45pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 1:45-2:15pm Wednesday and Friday) and on Saturday when the Chinese School operates, the internal school roadway will be designated and signed one way to reduce traffic congestion.

  • Students will not be used to facilitate parking (OHS).

  • School Council will work with the municipal council to ensure all on-street parking is clearly signposted and School Council will seek cooperation from the local municipal council in ensuring that on-street parking has appropriate time zones applied.

  • All school gates will be securely locked out of school hours, with keys sparingly distributed to appropriate people.

  • Sufficient disabled car parking will be available and monitored.

  • Proper and safe parking practices will be communicated regularly through the “This week at TC” email.

  • Damage to vehicles parked on school grounds is not covered by the Department of Education insurance.
