TC 2018-2021 Vision: To co-create high quality learning experiences within an inclusive and supportive community

To the TC Community,

This week in SSDP we launched the Resilience Project with students. This is a fantastic project based around helping young people build their resilience. Statistics show that 40% of Secondary Students are currently experiencing a Mental Health issue, and we as a school must take action to help students build the skill of resilience. You will be aware that we as a school have signed up with the Resilience Project. Information on the project, in general, can be found at  https://theresilienceproject.com.au/ . This project is used by such organisations as Richmond and Collingwood Football clubs, The Australian Netball Team plus many other non sport based organisations including many schools reaching over 300,000 Australians.

In Thursdays SSDP groups (in which students have been split into more age based groups for Thursdays) each student received a diary. This diary is the same as used by the other organisations mentioned above, added with some age appropriate content that is either relevant to your childs age, or their school life. I would encourage you to ask your child about their diary and to have a look through it yourself. It will get used more and more throughout at the year as we undertake the project and become more relevant.

We also have our parent talk taking place on Monday 4th March. This is an event not to be missed. Please use the link in the message below to book your place as this will help us to plan for a venue big enough to meet the demand.

PEER SUPPORT REPORT FOR ENTRY STUDENTS

 Week 1

This week TC launched the Peer Support Program for 2019. Throughout this Term Entry students will meet in small groups of 8-10 with 2-3 trained Peer Support Leaders once a week during Thursday’s SSDP time.  They will together work through a range of activities that focus on resilience.  Meeting in these small groups allows meaningful connections to form, assisting students with a smoother transition into the TC Community.  Over a period of eight weeks students will acknowledge their strengths and achievements, identify people who support them and learn how to view challenges as opportunity for growth.  The first session was very successful, and it was great to see so many connections already forming within the groups.  Stay tuned for weekly updates that will provide information on each session’s focus and progress.

For additional reading and resources to support your child please visit the parent tab on the Peer Support

Australia Website. www.peersupport.edu.au

Sports Update

Today is the last opportunity for students to sign up for term 1 sport (baseball, cricket, softball, tennis, volleyball)  Training for interschool sport will occur on Thursdays during SSDP and will appear on students compass schedule providing they have signed up.  This will commence in week 3 for senior and intermediate students and week 6 for Entry and U14 students.

The Community Swimming Carnival is also coming up on Feb 26th at Aquarena.  Students will have an opportunity to sign up for swimming events next week including dolphin races, diving competition, inflatable castle dash, and your traditional swimming races.  There will also be TC Market, sausage sizzle, TC music, drones, TC media and grass games for students and staff to enjoy.  If you have any questions about the sporting program ask one of the PE staff or one of our student Sports Leadership team.

Entry Camp Next Week

Two of our Communities (Gold and Blue) are leaving for Entry Camp next week. Students have been given information, but should meet by the Sports Centre. We will have additional parking available on the Oval for those parents wishing to help their child get to the Sports Centre. Space is very limited whilst we are aiming to ensure Student Safety so we really encourage you to park on the Oval.

Entry Students not attending the camp should still attend school as there will be classes running.

2019 GRAD MEETING ON TUESDAY

There will be a Grad meeting held during SSDP on Tuesday. Topics covered include 2019 Grad Camp as well as Grad Jumpers/Hoodies being handed out. This will be held in the PAC.

Traffic Flow through the school at Peak times

A reminder that we have a one way system in place during peak pick up and drop off times. All pick ups and drop offs should take place at the space by the Astroturf and Sports Centre. The space along the front of the school is NOT the space to pick up and drop off as this causes traffic delays on Cypress Avenue and Lynwood Parade.

USE OF DISABLED PARKING SPACES

Please note we have several students who require use of the Disabled Parking Spaces. Please do not park in these unless it is your right to do so.

Sports Update

Term 1 presents many opportunities for TC students to be involved in sport.  We have baseball, cricket, softball, tennis and volleyball as sports students can participate in for interschool sport.  Sign up for this is available on compass or the link has been emailed to all students.  Training for interschool sport will occur on Thursdays during SSDP and will appear on students compass schedule providing they have signed up.  This will commence in week 3 for senior and intermediate students and week 6 for Entry and U14 students.  There is also our Community Swimming Carnival which is happening on Feb 26th at Aquarena.  If you have any questions about the sporting program ask one of the PE staff or one of our Sports Leadership student team.
