To co-create high quality learning experiences within an inclusive and supportive community
— TC2018-2021 Our Vision

Next Week @ TC - 14th December 2018

To the TC Community,

I would like to congratulate everyone on completing our Head Start Program. This program has seen many positive results in terms of students and their learning, with the first two weeks of 2019 now completed! Students are encouraged to use the holidays to consolidate on their learning, revisiting their notes, completing any work that was not finished in class or looking to what is next in the subject. These two weeks are a really important step in the learning process for us as we look to get that head start on the year.

Many of our 2018 Unit 3/4 students will have received their VCE study scores today. Whilst we all know that the ATAR is an outdated system, I would like to acknowledge the hard work that all of our students have put into their studies this year in the subject. Here @ TC we strive for high quality learning experiences, and for many of our unit 3/4 students this has meant that they have tried their best in their studies this year. I do not need to remind our students that your ATAR does not define who you are. Whilst @ TC students have the opportunities to develop skills that aren’t measured in an ATAR, skills that are actually a better determinant of success in life. The skills include collaboration, problem solving, the ability to cope with change, empathy towards others, an entrepreneurial mindset plus many more. These transferable skills that are needed across many different job clusters can not be measured by an exam, but in the great work that we see everyday from our students.

A Request from our Montessori Program: Furnishing our spaces

This term brings another exciting development for MAP in 2018. In Week 4 we will be refurbishing room D03 (adjacent to the current MAP room, via our kitchen) as our MAP Numeracy space and second permanent MAP room.

We would like to make D03 a special space in which we can store all the MAP equipment and materials in a way that they are safe but also readily available for use during class time. This will enable us to set clearly defined expectations about our learning spaces, how we find them, use them and leave them. Montessori expects adolescents to care for their environment in a fully adult manner.

To construct this space within the true Montessori spirit of Prepared Environment, we wish – with TC’s approval – to provide beautiful furniture of natural materials and finish. We’d love if you know of, or happen to have, any timber furniture which you would be able to donate to the Program. If these items need repair or tlc, so much the better: of such experiences is great learning achieved. Already, two wooden tables have been found in hard rubbish by MAP staff! If you have any, please don’t hesitate to contact me on SFR@tc.vic.edu.au
